Marie Petry started her singing career in high school and has performed with many well-known country musicians. Norwich High School honored her with Most Musical of her class of 68 and she won the honor of performing in the NYS Choir at the Concord Hotel at Kiameshia Lake, N.Y. After graduating she teamed up with another vocalist as a folk song duo and performed on the local Binghamton TV station for showcasing Chenango Co. Talent.
Marie was stand up vocalist for local bands such as Larry Hunter, Jack Miner, Ken Warner & Tom Carhart. She was asked to fill in for a female vocalist who was in an accident in the band called “Freee Beer”. She stayed with that band for 4 years playing in the Canastota area. Marie then moved on to fill in for another female vocalist, Ellen Harrington, in the “Wild Ones” band with Paul Harrington, Merle Matts, and Gordy Shields, Sr. While with the “Wild Ones”, Marie won 1st place Female Vocalist in the 1984 Festival of Bands contest at the Cortland Country Music Park. She also did a recording on the Blue Diamond label. She stayed 4 years with the “Wild Ones” and moved on to perform with the “Wild & Country Band”. While with this band for 4 years she went to Wheeling, W. Va. and recorded a cassette and performed at Hunter Mt. & the Nashville Opry Land Hotel. She performed locally with Nashville acts such as Loretta Lynn, Mel Tillis, Little Jimmy Dickens, Faron Young, and Kitty Wells. At the Owego Concert she performed with Sawyer Brown, Dan Seals, Charlie Daniels, & the Oak Ridge Boys.
While taking a break between bands, Marie performed with local talents Bruce Beadle and Gregg Allen. Then Marie joined the “Borderline Band” for 2 years and they performed at the Statler Bros. Show at the Cortland Country Music Park. When the “Borderline Band” originator Chuck Sherman quit the band, the members renamed their group “Destiny”. They were the opening acts for the Chenango Co. Fair & the Otsego Co. Fair in 1997.
She is currently a part of the “Route 66 Band” which has opened at Cortland’s Country Music Park for Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, Randy Travis and “Whisperin’” Bill Anderson. In 2001 she recorded 6 songs on an album titled “Most Requested Songs of Route 66”; Apartment #9, Crazy, Make Memories With Me (a duet with Gary Morley), Could I Have This Dance, Pour Me and I Will Always Love You. On the new CD entitled “Route 66 Band” We’re Still Country”, she recorded “My Baby Thinks He’s A Train”, “Sweet Dreams Of You”, “Where The Boys Are”, an original that she wrote “Let Go” and a duet with Jay called the “Picture”.
She and the band have been doing such dinner theatre shows as a Tribute to Loretta Lynn, a 50’s Rock, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Hee Haw A Tribute to Patsy Cline, in which Marie received a standing ovation and most recently A Tribute To The Grand Ole Opry.
She and the band have also been performing at fairs in Pa. and New York.
Marie also coordinates the Chenango Co. Fair Talent Showcase. When she’s not performing she works full time doing accounting work and prepares income taxes. Her love for country music and her performance on and off stage stimulates crowds everywhere.
Marie lives in So. New Berlin and has a daughter and a son, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law in California..
